The next time you see an advert that suggests you can watch satellite for free, be sure to look out for the brand names DirecTV or Dish Network. Chances are the whole concept of free satellite here refers to the free equipment and installation these satellite service providers would provide for you. Watching satellite for free is literally true if you are contented to stare at your blank screen. Well, if you intend to put something on your screen, ie watch some LIVE channels, be prepared to fork out $30 - $ 70 dollars every single month for your satellite subscription. The digital satellite systems (DSS) developers are going on a witch-hunt for satellite pirates, and are constantly formulating new electronic counter measures (ECM) to lock devices and cards that steals satellite signals, allowing one to watch satellite for free. The smart programmers who first came up with the devices would then reprogram their cards with a new code, defeating the DSS developers at their own game. Or did they actually win? Not exactly because this is a cat and mouse game, where each group of programmers is in a never-ending race to upgrade their ware and out beat each other.
While the war to watch satellite for free is going on, consumers suffer each time when their cards and devices get busted and have no choice but to get the latest updated replacements. This definitely is not the best long-term solution for our pockets. Watching satellite for "free" is not free after all.
